Project Samsara @ 500K
Half a million words. What is that, really?
Let’s put it into perspective;
- Les Misérables – Victor Hugo (~530k)
- War and Peace – Leo Tolstoy (~587k in English)
- The Count of Monte Cristo – Alexandre Dumas (~464k–620k, depending on edition)
- Atlas Shrugged – Ayn Rand (~645k, slightly over but close)
- The Stand (Uncut Edition) – Stephen King (~471k)
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix – J.K. Rowling (~257k, so you’d need two of these)
- A Storm of Swords – George R.R. Martin (~424k, a bit short)
More so;
- The Lord of the Rings – J.R.R. Tolkien (~480k)
- The First Law Trilogy – Joe Abercrombie (~575k)
- The Broken Empire Trilogy – Mark Lawrence (~505k)
In truth, I had nothing prepared to say here. Not even a cool bit of art. All I feel is the vague sense of having walked, deduced only by not being where I initially was, rather than a sense of having expended effort. While I do not want to say that it has become routine to hit these milestones, it simply is the nature of things to grow when they are nurtured.
So I’ll close on that note; Project Samsara continues to grow.
And it’s a good feeling.
Onwards and starwards. See you at the next big six digits.
PS: I did actually find something nifty enough to share in lieu of a graphic; a picture of my second Samsara drafting notebook. I consider the paper and pen to be the purest manifestation of the craft, and this deep into the project, I’ve only come to value it even more.
Apologies for my terrible handwriting, but I doubt you can heckle me any more for it than my mother already has.
